How is each one made?

Ozonated glycerin is glycerin that ozone has been bubbled through under controlled conditions. It takes an ozone generator and a way to measure the result, so it is not a home recipe. Unlike ozonated oil, glycerin mixes with water, saline and lotion. Our guide on what ozonated glycerin is covers the basics.

PurO3 makes its glycerin in its own lab in Arkansas. It feeds its ozone generators with liquid oxygen at 99.9% purity, and says each oxygen delivery comes with a certificate of analysis. It describes a low-heat process with cooling, a "proprietary mixing process" and a "dedicated clean room lab." It does not publish a cleanroom class.

Glyzine is made in our own lab in Michigan. Our system also uses 99.9% pure oxygen. It is fully sealed, touchless and automated, so no room air gets in. It runs in a cleanroom built to ISO Class 5 standards. We ozonate the glycerin to full saturation. We make it as orders come in, so every customer gets a fresh batch.

We worked directly with Mediplus Pharma, a Japanese maker of ozonated glycerin, who advised us on how to manufacture it. Mediplus Pharma, Inc. is based in Tokyo and was founded in 1973. Glyzine is made by Simply O3, not by Mediplus.

Does either company publish lab testing or strength?

Glyzine is 10,000 ppm. We also published an independent untargeted LC-MS chemical profile of Glyzine, done with Theriome. It is the first ozonated glycerin with an independent LC-MS chemical profile. The results are in what we found in the Glyzine chemical profile.

PurO3 has not published a strength figure, a peroxide value, a certificate of analysis or lab results for its glycerin. Its label says "Maximum Potency."

We have not tested PurO3's glycerin ourselves.

How long does each last and how should you store it?

PurO3 says its glycerin lasts up to 18 months when refrigerated, and that freezing lengthens shelf life further. It says to avoid sunlight and high heat. Glyzine lasts 90 days at room temperature. Refrigerate it at 2 to 8 °C (36 to 46 °F) to extend that. PurO3 has not published testing to support 18 months. We have not seen published data from any maker showing ozonated glycerin holds its strength past 90 days, so 90 days is what we state. Our article on how long ozonated glycerin lasts covers Glyzine storage.

If you dilute any ozonated glycerin, mix it fresh each time.

What are the benefits of ozonated glycerin?

We sell Glyzine for skin care and everyday personal care. We do not make health claims for it. People add it to lotion for a skin routine, and use it diluted as a mouthwash. Our how-to guides cover other uses. Our Glyzine skincare routine shows one example.

Published human research on ozonated glycerin is limited. We found three human studies. None looked at nebulized, nasal, mouthwash or drinking use.

Frequently asked questions

Is Glyzine cheaper than PurO3?

Yes, at 2 oz. Glyzine is $49.99 and PurO3 is $59.95. Both ship free to the continental US at that size, so Glyzine costs $9.96 less, shipped.

Who helped Simply O3 learn to make ozonated glycerin?

We worked directly with Mediplus Pharma, a Japanese maker of ozonated glycerin based in Tokyo, who advised us on how to manufacture it. Glyzine is made by Simply O3 in our own lab in Michigan, in a cleanroom built to ISO Class 5 standards.

Is ozonated glycerin safe, and does it have side effects?

Use ozonated glycerin only as the how-to guides describe. It is not risk-free. Try a small patch of skin first. Never nebulize it undiluted. Never use tap water in a nebulizer or nasal spray. Stop using it if you notice irritation. If you are pregnant or have a health condition, talk with your own health professional first. Our article is ozonated glycerin safe has more.

How do you use ozonated glycerin?

Most uses mix it with water, saline or lotion. Our guide uses 10% in lotion for everyday skin use and 10% as a mouthwash. To make 10%, mix 3 tablespoons of liquid with 1 teaspoon of glycerin. Mix it fresh each time. Full amounts for each use are in how to use ozonated glycerin.

Can you use ozonated glycerin in a nebulizer?

Our guide uses a compressor (jet) nebulizer with a mask. We do not recommend mesh or ultrasonic nebulizers. Start at 2.5% in distilled water or saline, or 1% if you are sensitive. Step up to 5%, then 10% at most. Use about 5 mL per session for 10 to 15 minutes, once or twice a day. Never nebulize it undiluted. Mix it fresh each time. See how to nebulize ozonated glycerin for the full steps.

Is ozonated glycerin good for skin?

Glyzine is our product for skin and beauty routines. Our guide mixes it into lotion at 10% for everyday use. Do a small patch test first. The skincare routine guide shows the steps.

Can you use ozonated glycerin for dogs?

We found no published animal studies on ozonated glycerin, so there is no tested amount for dogs. Our how-to guide describes a 5% spray in distilled water for the skin and coat. Ask your veterinarian before using it on a pet.

How is ozonated glycerin made?

Ozone made from pure oxygen is bubbled through glycerin until it is fully saturated with ozone. It takes an ozone generator, controlled conditions and a way to measure the result, so it is not a home recipe. PurO3 and Simply O3 both make theirs from 99.9% pure oxygen. Their published processes differ, as compared above.

Where can you buy ozonated glycerin?

You can buy Glyzine on our site: Glyzine ozonated glycerin. You can also see the full ozonated glycerin collection.

Is Glyzine the same as PurO3's ozonated glycerin?

No. They come from different companies. Both use certified organic, USP-grade coconut glycerin and 99.9% pure oxygen, both are fully ozonated, and both are made in the USA. They differ in price, sizes, production room, published testing and stated shelf life, as the table above shows.
